Show Summary

At the top of the show, David Wild sits with Adam and the gang, and the guys talk about the breakup of Chumbawumba. Adam recalls all the crazy bands he met during his Loveline days, then rants about inconsistencies with batteries and hotel faucets. Later, Adam talks about a snake encounter with Molly, and Alison talks about interviewing Bobcat Goldthwait. Before David heads out, the guys share their songs of the week.

Thomas Jane steps into the studio next and talks with Adam about the joys of peeing in the sink. Thomas also talks about his comic book company, and how excited he is to return to Comic Con this weekend. Adam recalls one of his favorite movie scenes that Thomas was in, and the guys talk about how he grew up and broke into show biz.

Alison then begins the news by discussing the latest updates in the Natalie Wood case. The guys also talk about the latest member of the Kardashian clan, and Alison talks about her imaginary family. Thomas then talks about his own daughter, and the wild cat that they’ve been raising as their pet. Alison mentions a restaurant that is about to offer a 100% ground bacon burger and the guys talk about the epidemic of bath salt cannibalism. As the show wraps up, the guys discuss Seth Meyer’s run to become cohost of Live with Kelly, and Thomas speaks more about this weekend’s Comic Con panel.

I totally get the whole pull over to side of the road for minor car accidents and really wish it wasn’t like that. The thing is the insurance companies use that as a loop hole to get out of paying up if you move your car, don’t get a police report or whatever. It sucks but that’s why people don’t move they don’t want to get fucked when it comes time to deal with those ass holes. Its the society we have forged!!!

Thomas Jane seems like a cool guy and I’d like to hear him back again to discuss some of his movies and Hollywood, as that didn’t really get covered.

However, and maybe it’s just me, but I kept hearing Jane talk and thinking of Joe Walsh. They had a very similar quality to their voice and the way they speak, and I’ve never noticed anything of the sort from Thomas Jane before this podcast. Maybe Joe Walsh isn’t the greatest example, but it just didn’t sound like what remembered him sounding like.

you just need to run the water a bit; that’s why toilets don’t smell.

how is it that Adam sees that shampoo is just soap; that there’s no need to use a “wash cloth” and yet he found it an affront when someone didn’t “wipe his feet” on entering a house. like the useless ritual of aggressive hand-washing in public rest rooms – unless you happened to piss on your hand or get shit on yourself while wiping — wiping your feet is functionally useless; it’s just a gesture to demonstrate to others that you know the foot-wiping rule. likewise, the only people who advocate that shampoo is essential are those who have so little to show for their lives that they have a huge stake in demonstrating that they know what are purportedly the basic rules of living.

    Adam!

Thanks for recommending The Jayhawks. I just downloaded the songs Save It For a Rainy Day, Tailspin, and All the Right Reasons while you were talking about them- they’re so good. Especially love the harmonica and twangy American guitar in Save it For a Rainy Day. My new husband and I are driving from Boston to our new home in San Francisco this fall and we’ll definitely be blasting these at some point on our trip across this beautiful country.

Here are some newer music artists/songs you might like, if you’ve got time, which you probably don’t:

Fossil Collective- Let It Go (was free on Itunes last week, woohoo!)
Gregory Alan Isakov- That Moon Song
    A. A. Bondy- I Can See The Pines Are Dancing

Hey, any advice on what kind of car we should buy/rent for the cross country trip? No kids yet, no dog yet, and we’re shipping our stuff in a Pod. Se we could drive anything, really.

    Thanks again, Ace!

The band Adam was talking about in the beginning of the show were the Sneaker Pimps when they were a guest on Loveline. That episode of Loveline is lost. When Stephen Baldwin was a guest on Tuesday, May 27, 1997 was when they aired the “off-air” argument with Liam, a band member. Liam didn’t want to “Liners” and walked off the show.

Alison shouldn’t have let Adam get away with dismissing Elliott Smith the amount we have to hear about average guys like John Hiatt.

    • Macaroni and Cheese
      Macaroni and Cheese07-11-2012

Completely agree. The fact that Adam had never heard of Elliott Smith shows how we are all sort of just into our own sphere of music and sometimes don’t pay attention to other stuff that’s out there, for better or for worse. Musical taste is so subjective, it’s a bit ridiculous how often Adam declares that everyone in the history of the planet must agree that a song or artist is terrible, and then praises a song or artist that a bunch of the listeners end up posting comments about to say “I hated that”.

      • Uncle Dude
        Uncle Dude07-17-2012

Yeah, I got kind of excited when Alison knew who he was, considering Adam loves Ben Folds, Ben Folds loves Elliott Smith, and Elliott Smith is better than anything Adam has ever played on his sessions with Wild. But, nonetheless I’ll just have to accept that Joe Jackson, The Pretenders, Elvis Costello and John Hiatt are the greatest musicians of all time.

  47. Bobcat

David Wild episodes are some of the best and give the show more legitimacy. I don’t get why the name dropping bothers people. The guy actually works in the music business and knows some famous people. Would you rather he keep all stories about them anonymous?

Carolla has reached a new level of old with his rank on batteries. it was hilarious, but how hard is putting a battery in. Everyone knows the flat side of the battery goes next to the spring. It reminded me of my grandma’s confusion over how to put a dvd into the dvd player, “How am I supposed to know what side goes up? Oh, forget it I’ll stick with VHS.”

Having a multitude of shower faucets is not nearly as confusing or annoying as cell phone charger plug types. If electronic companies can agree on USB, electrical outlet, and other standards, why not a cell phone plug type standard?

So after I googled it, there is a move towards the micro USB. One of the main reasons is the millions of chords and chargers and crap that end up in the landfill.

But glad to hear someone else who considers themselves fairly smart is sometimes confused in a hotel or friend’s shower. There does seem to be an unusually large amount of shower faucet choices out there.

I vote for the single handle/knob design.
