Show Summary
Adam opens the show with Larry Miller in studio right from the beginning. He talks a bit about the cool project he’s working on with Kevin Smith and Kevin Pollack, and talks with Alison about the (late) ACE Broadcasting Christmas Party. Alison then jumps into the news, talking about Oprah’s revealing family secret, and the sad passing of Jack LaLanne.
In entertainment news, Alison lists some of the nominations for the Razzies. The guys also discuss the demise of M. Night Shyamalan, and all the crappy Nic Cage movies. Alison brings up the devastating news that Marriott hotels are phasing out porn. There’s talk about the recent suicide bombing in Russia, and Adam and Larry talk about the important difference America has made in the world.
After the break, back in-studio with Seth MacFarlane. The guys talk about Seth’s love of classic music and live orchestral arrangements. They also talk about his early days animating for Hanna-Barbera, and Adam complains about all the crappy cartoons they put out. Seth also talks about the early days of putting Family Guy together, and Adam discusses his own issues getting an animated pilot off the ground. As the show wraps, Seth reads a section of Adam’s book in the voice of Stewie.

Hi to the producers – just a heads up – I wanted to click through to amazon, but couldnt find the banner on the support the show page – it turned out i had my adblocker (for chrome) on which caused the amazon banner (but not the others) to disappear – might want to have ace mention this for those who have the adblocker enabled by default and might not know why the banner isn’t showing up. thank you, Jimmy
Awesome
Although there were a few cartoon stinkers by Hanna-Barbera, their batting average is above .500 with classics like Jonny Quest, The Jetsons, Top Cat, The Flintstones, and Space Ghost. Heck, when I was real young, I even liked Pixie and Dixie, Huckleberry Hound, Yogi Bear, Tom and Jerry, and Captain Caveman! I must admit for time spent in front of the TV I logged in more hours with Looney Tunes and Walter Lanz; fabulous Saturday morning memories.
“You see kiddees” there was a time when there were high quality cartoons from 6 AM to 11 AM on Sat mornings. During the week there were Popeye, Underdog, and Mighty Mouse cartoons, but Saturdays in the late 60s to mid 70s were special. When cable hit the scene in the late 70s many of the awesome cartoons from the Looney Tune franchise migrated to the Cartoon Network, but that is just a footnote in history too.
The programming when I was a kid had after school cartoons too, that’s where we would see the turds like Land of the Lost, HR Puffin-stuff, and The Herculoids. Fortunately as a four sport athlete I only endured those bombs when I was home sick from school and practice.
I just thought I would refresh Adam’s memories.
I got my first chubby to the Banana Split’s dancers, yeah I did!
Excited to hear this, love Seth Macfarlane’s work, mostly American Dad lol.
Skipped to the Seth interview…just realized this is a repeat after hearing Alison’s ‘swallow the whistle’ comment.
I fail.
I think Ace and the gang deserve a vacation, yes yes?
Dear Mr Carolla (With a ton of sarcasm as if some one would call you that)
I am an avid listener and just wanted to let you know that you got a shout out on a local radio station at about 3:55 pm. She was filling in for John and Ken and mentioned you and Alec Baldwin in the same sentence. Just thought that you would find it pretty cool that you got a mention with someone you admire
awesome.. always good podcast when seth is on the show…
The commercial ads made me miss Daves of Thunder.
This episode is a repeat from last January.
Very good. What tipped you off?
Someone tell Ace it’s “Family Guy”, not “THE Family Guy”.
Amazing! Seth read your book as Stewie! NICE!
I think what should have tipped everyone off was when Ace said “this will be our last show of the year, the rest will be best ofs” during the Ace Awards! I always enjoy the podcasts with Seth, he’s a really good guest.
I agree with wllm as well. Usually I skip through the “break”, but I got nostalgic listening to the Daves of Thunder music again. I miss that podcast.
