In all seriousness, a lot of those books are called Easy Readers and are meant for children to learn to read. Not great for story telling or reading aloud.

My favorite children’s book as a kid was Bread and Jam for Frances about a little girl (bear?) who only wanted to heat bread and jam for for every meal. Now, my favorite book is Knuffle Bunny by Mo Willems. Also, Shark vs. Train is pretty funny with humor adults will get.
