Show Summary

Adam opens the show discussing his recent visit to the Family Guy studios to do a voiceover for their new video game. He also talks about why he doesn’t like going on vacation, and chats with his buddy Ray about sneaking over the neighbor’s fence to cool off in their pool. Adam and Ray then answer a couple home improvement questions, including one from Alison.

Captain Dale Dye enters the studio next, and talks briefly about getting into the radio biz after the first Gulf War. Adam also asks him about being a combat consultant for actors in war movies, and which celebrity was the biggest weenie. Later, Dale tells his own story of enlisting in the Marines, fighting in three tours of Vietnam, and coping with the PTSD that followed.

Alison starts up the news discussing the two-time world’s fastest texter. They also talk about a girl who claimed her father water-boarded her in the sink. The last news story is about the American judo fighter who was disqualified from the Olympics, and the guys wrap the show discussing which Olympic events they’d like to see back in the spotlight.

I remember Joe Rogan of all people coming onto this podcast a few years back, and saying that marijuana actually did offer a competitive advantage, because it calms the nerves so much. If you’re fighting in front of thousands of people and having the biggest match of your life in the thing you’ve been training to do for a decade….etc.

Given that Rogan will go out of his way to defend weed, to the point of being irrational, it seems like something to consider.

Hey Ace, why not offer Captain Dye a podcast (looks like his radio show was dropped), I think it would be really interesting, one of the better guests you have had on for quite some time! He would be a great replacement for the slot left open from your Dad’s podcast being cancelled. Hell, you could ask the good Captain if he would be interested in stepping in to replace your Dad altogether. I bet you he would read your books (bet he would even buy them himself).

The reason why you’re seeing swimming and not boxing is because the USA dominates the swimming events, but all their boxers went out in the first rounds. American media doesn’t want to show US athletes losing heavily.

        liberalsRstupid08-13-2012

I’m not saying PTSD isnt real Im saying it will be used weapon against the Taxpayer… PTSD isn;t limited to the Military. Life itself creates PTSD and adults deal with it… Have you driven the highways of SoCal lately?

      • chris
        chris08-16-2012

        10% is pretty much automatic.

You can get 10% for minor hearing damage. Guess how they judge hearing? A hearing test in other words even if you do not have hearing damage (many of them do heck many normal people in their 30-40’s already have noticeable hearing damage) you can simple SAY to have hearing damage by performing badly on the hearing test.

The problem with the service credit disability is in a lot of cases the ones who DON’T needed it scam the system and up their % BUT the one who truly needed it never get it.

          really?

That is like someone having diabetes and you saying “well you have a disease BUT you should refuse to get any medical treatment” Meanwhile this untreated diabetes client ultimately has to amputate his legs and dies of a heart attack.

PTSD is REAL. Yes people can “fake” it BUT there are TONS of people that actually have it and need help.

    • Cool Hwip
      Cool Hwip08-13-2012

PTSD is real and many guys end up dealing with it through drug or alcohol addiction. But oh well, you don’t believe it and I don’t care. As far as I’m concerned, anybody who goes into a situation to dodge bullets, bombs and mortars for my wussie ass deserves a lot more than what the VA hospitals give out, particularly when we have P.O.S. teachers retiring in their 50’s (in CA) with a full pension and benefits.

      • chris
        chris08-16-2012

        teacher?

I know people in the UC/ Cal State system can retire after 40 years and get most (all if they are 60) of their highest year pay as a pension. The same would apply for state employees.

But teachers k-12 are COUNTY employees not STATE. They do not really have that amazing of a system. Yes it is better then some states but it is nothing to crazy.

        Just look at this difference.

I would for the VA (federal government) a retirement system most employees in the USA would envy.

I am going to retire at 57 (minimum retirement age) with 33 years (32 working and 1 year cashing out my sick leave).

You take my average pay over a 3 year period (whichever period is the highest) and I will get 33% of that. Lets just say that average is 100k (will be higher but this is easier for math). I will get 33k a year for the rest of my life (plus health insurance).

In the California State employee system my 57 year old self with 33 years experience would get 69% of my salary from my highest year (just 1 year so this means I could would 1 year in a much higher paying position and then quit) for the rest of my life. If I worked to 60 it would be 90% and if I could hold out to 64 it would be 100%.

PLUS the minimum retirement age is 50 in the State system. So I could retire at age 50 and still get 29% of my highest salary for the rest of my life.

The California State retirement plan is flat out CRAZY.

I am 100% ok with my federal pension (many people would love to have it) but it is nothing compared to a government California employee.

The Olympic rant was one of the most retarded things I’ve heard on the podcast for awhile. CNBC covered the boxing nonstop for days. Why is everyone shocked at the fact that a vet is funny, Interesting and articulate? Should have my father on the cast. He has enough stories for a book/movie and it would be a great read. From running Vietnamese hookers(medically checked every 2 weeks) for his men to risking his life flying in to save some marines, he was army, because the marine pilots refused to fly. To risky.

My point……..military vets are a treasure of stories so great and so many we couldn’t measure it.

I’m happy the old soldier (whom I highly respect) did understand that plenty of civilians did 4 or 8 or more years of absolutely the toughest lives, in violent life-threatening neighbourhoods, in some of the most brutal construction or labor jobs in the world. All for a few dollars, no respect and to chip in a little tax money so soldiers can exist in the first place.

Anyways, I’m having exactly the same problem as Adam. For whatever bad timing or otherwise, no matter when I tune into the Olympics:
    – I get the women’s versions that I do NOT need to see. Women’s boxing, wrestling, marathon.
    – I DO NOT get many women’s versions that I DO want to see. Gymnastics, beach volleyball, Diving.
    – NOT seeing mens events that would be ‘mens events’ weightlifting, boxing, judo or feats of strength.
    – When it IS a Mens version.. yep.. its dancing or diving or ballet or something.

What’s going on with this? My wife says she is getting her version of this too. Please tell me this isn’t on purpose as some kind of gender equality ‘teaching us’ arranged thing? No, I can’t believe they’d be doing this on purpose.

Ray’s an artifact, like a mastodon femur, that someone told you they had back at the house. You go over to their place for dinner a few months later and they break out the mastodon femur and you are…eh, underwhelmed–it’s just a useless old bone, unremarkable in every way.

You say “nice femur” and have dinner and leave, never expecting or needing to see the mastodon femur again.

A few months later you’re over at the same dude’s house and, lo and behold, after dinner but before dessert, when everyone’s anticipating some tasty creme brulee, you get creme merde: dude breaks out the idiot mastaodon femur AGAIN.

Ray appearing on this podcast again is a mastodon femur in lieu of creme brulee.
