Today is the first time the girls are recording their show in the new studio. They bring Mark McGrath and his girlfriend Carin into the studio right from the top of the show. Mark and Carin have been together 18 years and have two-year-old twins. The couple chats about driving each other crazy, and the importance of regulating your kids’ naptime as they prepare to send them to school. The group also talks about their obsessions with setting up a Disney cruise, and why having kids forces you to learn new things about your partner.
Later, the group discusses how it’s easy to be drained by your daily activities and difficult to save energy once you’re back with your family. They talk about the high divorce rate, and how you can’t hold the D word over each other’s heads when you’re arguing. Mark also talks about the upcoming Summerland tour, and what his experience on Celebrity Apprentice was like. As the show wraps up, the guys talk about not being to connect with their kids until they got a little older, and Lynette and Mark recall the fun times had at Jimmy Kimmel’s Howard Stern parties.

First- Love the show ladies!!
But I live and grew up in central Iowa- you really get use to the winters here and we would always love going tubing or just playing in the snow when I was growing up. To this day I love all of our seasons. What sucks is when it’s cold but we don’t get a lot of snow then you have the indoor amusement places like Incredible Pizza (I doubt there’s any around you guys) but they have go carts, an arcade etc. What I would hate is way way up north like in Minnesota where it gets even colder- but I would assume you get use to it all =)
My son is an only child and he played by himself with no problem. He still does. Twins may have each other to play with, but only children learn how to play independently too. Just saying….
Agree – I have an only as well, and he’s always been very good at finding things to do. And I don’t have to waste any of my time refereeing a bunch of sibling fights when they are supposed to be quietly “keeping each other busy”.
But anyway, like the guests said, YES it IS wonderfully easy and fun with just one! I love parenting and can’t fathom why people actually want any more when all they seem to do is complain about hard it is.
I doesn’t really get easier. The obstacles just change. My kids are 13, 12 and 8. Middle school has been harder than the terrible twos!
I loved this show! Interesting and funny discussions on couple relationships and parenting! Thanks
I have to say this has been one of the best shows you ladies have done. I love your honesty of how hard
life/marriage/parenthood can be and how you guys really try to work on making things better. That is not
always easy.
I have new respect of Mark and his girlfriend and their willingness to talk about real real life. I love
Mark’s take on his music career too now i can’t wait to see him and his band in concert and support him.
Keep up the great work.
Love the show!!!
I just wanted to say that this was a great show. I love when the Mc Graths are on because they are so open and honest. It’s such a rare thing in y’alls line of work it seems, but it’s one of the reasons I love the podcast and the both of you so much! Thanks for all y’all do and for sharing your lives with us.
Teresa Strasser just twittered that she is pregnant again! Get her on the show to talk about this ASAP!
I guess I don’t know how it works, I’m not a parent but I love Lynette & Stephanie is funny – hell, they’re both funny……
But Mark says his 2&1/2 year olds are asking daily “where are we going/what are we doing?” like Lynette’s 5 year olds? Carin says that they wake up wanting to leave the house. At THAT age? Seems unreal to me, I mean they’re 2 and they bark orders at their parents? I truly can’t believe that for a second, unless they’re savants & can actually speak, but I’ve had many friends with kids & never have I experienced a 2&1/2 y.o. being able to speak more or less ask to go to the park or zoo or ‘what are we doing today?’
Carin said, ‘they’re kids they don’t have a choice.’ That’s how it was for me growing up, so those comments by them confuse me greatly.
Just another reason not to have kids, they rule your life & that’s really not for me. Love the podcast for this & many reasons.
I just heard the part about Cathy continuing the Parent Experiment – serioulsy creepy!
Didn’t Lynnette & Teresa start that show? Did Cathy help come up with the idea, cuz I don’t remember that!
Can you guys give us an update on the little girl with cancer, Lynzie? Her web site is down and I am hoping she is OK…
Lynzie’s mom, Rebecca is on Twitter. The website is down because she can’t afford it any longer and Lynzie is not doing well. https://twitter.com/#!/AllAboutLynzie
Thanks. It sounds like they are pretty desperate for money. What about Medicaid? I gathered from her tweets that her husband is gone now. What happened to him? With no income she should qualify for Medicaid, no?
Thanks for finally discussing the whole Kathee thing. I was really starting to wonder why it was being so avoided. Also, PLEASE have Teresa on again!
It was so nice to hear a real perspective on how strained relationships can get with kids. I’m just about to get married and we want to have kids; it will be nice to go into with a realistic perspective.
Thanks Ladies!
Been listening since ’09 and am absolutely addicted to the show.
Thank you ladies for finally discussing what happened with the Parent Experiment and Producer Kathee. I agree with the above post – creepy. Anywho, because of this podcast, two girlfriends and are I going to get tickets for the Summerland Tour when it hits Tulsa. So you can say this podcast sold at least three tickets for the Summerland Tour.
Amazing episode, one of my all-time favorites!
I totally know what Mark’s wife means about public schools and a huge number of classrooms for each grade. I’m seeing this in my son’s school. He was very disappointed this year when none of his best friends were in his classroom. I hate this. I had gone to private and LOVED the closeness I had with all the kids from 1st – 8th grade. We were family, and I still keep in touch with many today.
This second appearance nailed it.
In between Mark’s Summer 90′s Tour and McGrath Baby # 3, Mark and Carin should start a podcast on the ACE Network.*
